SA, Venezuela sign energy deal

South Africa and Venezuela signed a number of agreements on oil and gas during the first state visit by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Among other things, these seek to pursue commercial opportunities around gas-to-liquid technology, an area where South Africa is a world leader.

South Africa sends aid to Sudan

South Africa is to send humanitarian assistance to the Abyei region of Sudan, in the form of 40 tons of non-perishable items including tents, blankets, mosquito nets, inflatable mattresses, food and clothes.

Mbeki sends condolences to Zambia

President Thabo Mbeki has expressed condolences on behalf of all South Africans to the people and government of Zambia following the death of President Levy Mwanawasa in Paris, France on Monday.
