Translate.org.za wins Mozilla grant

South Africa's award-winning multilingual software developer, Translate.org.za, has been awarded a grant by the US-based Mozilla Corporation to extend its on- and offline translation tools.

Microsoft's Africa innovation centres

Microsoft is to build four innovation centres in Africa - including two in South Africa - over the next two years. The centres will provide facilities and support programmes in innovation, intellectual capital, technology and business skills for both the public and private sector.

IBM launches Africa Innovation Centre

Multinational computer technology and consulting company IBM has launched the Africa Innovation Centre in Johannesburg - the first of its kind on the continent - to drive IT skills development and address business challenges in the region.

Software that speaks 'local'

Software developer Translate.org.za has been honoured once more for translating software like Firefox and OpenOffice.org into indigenous languages, as well as developing South Africa's first multilingual keyboard.

SA's free streaming radio player

South Africans at home and abroad can now easily use the internet to listen to and even record their favourite local radio stations, thanks to a free, small and easy-to-use programme, "AmaRadio", that was created by local developer Gary James.
